Introduction:
The PIMS, DU Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is rapidly developing to be one of the most sought after professional education & research referral library. The service was started in the year 1984. All bibliographic details of books, journals and CD-ROM databases are accessible through the campus wide network. The library has vast number of printed documents, and as on date, subscribes to over 291 national and international journals.
The Library has established contacts with other organizations for exchange of the Institute’s publications and inter-library loan arrangement.

Infrastructure:
Aesthetically designed with all ultra modern facilities and measuring an area of 29723 sq.ft. has been exclusively provided for the library with the objective of providing an excellent academic ambience.

Library Administration / Library Committee:
Library committee is an advisory body to monitor the smooth Library functions. The committee frames rules and regulations to the plan of action.
The committee calls meetings as per the necessity to help the Library work. Committee advises for procurement of books, periodicals subscription and acquisition of capital items.

Keeping in view the aims and objects of the Library, the Library has developed its
collection e.g. books, reference books, periodicals, magazine, dissertations, news papers,
paper-clippings, Audio video cassette, CD, donated books, university and college
publications.

Computerized Information Retrieval:
Considering the importance of computerization, the PIMS, DU LRC has setup an Information Centre. The library has prepared a database of books and periodicals in different subjects. The house- keeping activities like Acquisition, Serial control, Cataloguing, Circulation, OPAC have been automated by using “Techfocuz LMIS Ver 2.7” Software.
LRC provides Barcode Technology for speedy transfer of information to the user .The Library has adopted this system to provide timely services to the users which also helps to save time.
In Internet section, there are 08 Pentium PCs with Broadband connections of 512 KBPS bandwidth to provide free services to the users. Users can access in-house databases and CD-ROMs and other electronic resources available in the library. All PCs are connected with Local Area Network (LAN) to reduce the time of the user and one heavy-duty network printer is installed. Scanner facility is provided to them to prepare their presentations. The Campus is networked through WI -Fi Technology to share information of Library.
ICT facilities available in Library for teaching learning process:
All the computers of Library connected to LAN. Circulation of Book is fully computerized bar code system.
OPAC search facility is available in the Library.
Databases :
- A. Database of 21918 books is available to search for the users of PIMS. Users search these books by Author wise, Title wise, Subject wise, Publishers, cost etc.
- B. Database of 284 Current, International and National Journals are available in reference section for the users of PIMS. Users search these references by Title wise, Year wise, Vol., No., and Publishers etc.
- C. 556 Dissertations database are also available in reference section of PIMS Central Library for the use of researchers. Users search this reference section of PIMS Central Library for use of researchers. Users search these references by Acc. No, Year, Name of the Researcher, title, University, subject etc. PIMS Central Library provides articles, information of related topics to the users are Library the Xeroxing and compute printing from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm.
CD, DVDs :
842 CD & DVDs are available in PIMS Library. It contains database information of Health Sciences by using CD ROM.
226 Medline CD ROM available in Library for use of PG and Faculty researchers of PIMS.
Internet :
The Central Library provides Internet browsing facility for faculty and students through “Broad Band” connection. Student and Faculty members search for online Journals and Medline search to obtain the Scientific information which they need. This facility is available for 9.00 am to 9.00 pm in Library.
The PIMS Central Library has taken the Associate Membership of INFLIBNET, for the use of UGC INFONET- Digital Library Consortium.
Language Lab. facilities are available in PIMS Central Library for teaching learning process.
Language Lab. consists of one computer set, 31 head sets, Lingua phone and software of ACEN Education Technology “ACNET 5.1”. Interactive Language Lab. software & devices for interactive course in phonetics and spoken English.
