Padmashri Dr. Vikhe Patil, the founder of the Pravara Medical Trust, Loni has sacrificed his life in the service of poor and downtrodden humanity. He was pioneer of the cooperative movement with social justice. He has been dreaming about equity, equality in access to health care and health care services. With firm commitment,' he initiated a moderate hospital in 1976, which has been serving the poor in many ways. However, the health care has become elusive to the poor due to its spiraling costs. The rural poor, in the absence of any social security measures finding it difficult to avail of the medical facility, especially in emergencies. Often they have to sell of their lone properties to meet the hospital expenditure.

In order to realize the Padmashri dreams for social justice and security in health, the management of Pravara Medical Trust, as part of many patient friendly schemes, launched a a unique Family Support Insurance Scheme in collaboration with New India Assurance Company Ltd, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency & PIRENS Insurance Institute, Loni as a social security scheme.

As per the Scheme, a family of six member (Four adults and two children aged below 18 years) has to just pay a premium of Rs. 730 per year (Rs. 2 per day per family) or an equivalent in kind like cereals (Wheat, Jowar, Bajra), pulses (Thur Dal, Mung Dal etc) etc to get the following benefits for whole year. The Insurance coverage will commence from the day of payment of membership fee.

All insured families get Out Patient and Inpatient treatment, diagnostic services including medicines at Pravara Rural Hospital, Loni, and the Six Rural Health Centers (RHCs) run by PMT at Rahata, Babhaleshwar, Kolhar, Pathare, Zarekathi and Shendi, and in Mobile Clinics run at Loni, Bhandardhara and Shevgaon areas up to a maximum amount of Rs. 20,000 in a year.

The much awaited Insurance Scheme has been launched on 19th January 2007 at the auspicious hands of Padmabhushan Dr. Rajanikant Arole (Magsaysay Awarded) and Shri Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, Member of Parliament and former Cabinet Minister for Heavy Industries, Government of India, and Dr. Ashok Vikhe Patil, Chief Executive Officer, PMT and Project Director, Sida Project, on the occasion of inauguration of Rural Health Center at Zarekathi. The Scheme has been hailed and received overwhelming response from the people from below poverty line as well as public at large.

Those who are interested can enroll themselves as members of the Insurance Scheme, by paying the prescribed fee of Rs. 730/- at the following collection centers.
