Introduction

The brave trades where the ordinary man is scared to step” is the spirit of Shri Padmashri Vitthal Rao Vikhe Patil. He dreamt of providing basic medical and educational facility to this rural backward and remote area of Maharashtra.

His dream came true in shape of Pravara Rural Hospital and bloomed into Rural Medical College and Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences. With all the state of an art treatment & training facilities, department of ophthalmology, in tune with the original idea is geared into providing comprehensive eye care to the local population mostly consisting of low socio-economic and education background.

  • The approach has been multidisciplinary integration of technologies, training, research and services for ocular problems.
  • The Dept. aims at equipping the future doctors with knowledge of ‘Ophthalmology and enable them to apply the same during their practice’.
  • Providing better training to the under-graduate, post graduate students .
  • Utilizing the expertise and authority of our faculty and staff in the field of Ophthalmology.
  • The Dept. provides comprehensive services to the community, through innovative programs that relate to ocular problems.

  • Super speciality courses-Training in Phaco-emulsification surgeries,training in LASERS..
  • Fluorescein angiography technician training.
  • Clinical setup for low visual aids,neuro-ophthalmology.
  • Training of PG students and staff in renowed eye institutes .
  • Surgical training for ophthalmic operation theatre assistance .
  • Development of ophthalmic equipment maintenance.
  • Optometry and ophthalmic assistants.
  • Rehabilitation courses-For visually impaired


Research Activities

The Departmental faculty has to its credit of having accomplished successfully 3 research projects of great ophthalmic significance,which have been published in International and 03 in National scientific journals.
